Reminders Of Him
By: Colleen Hoover
Genre: Romance, Contemporary Women’s Fiction
Tropes: Enemies to Lovers
Trigger Warnings: Death, Grief, Depression
After serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake, Kenna Rowan returns to the town where it all went wrong, hoping to reunite with her four-year-old daughter. But the bridges Kenna burned are proving impossible to rebuild. Everyone in her daughter’s life is determined to shut Kenna out, no matter how hard she works to prove herself.
The only person who hasn’t closed the door on her completely is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna’s daughter. But if anyone were to discover how Ledger is slowly becoming an important part of Kenna’s life, both would risk losing the trust of everyone important to them.
The two form a connection despite the pressure surrounding them, but as their romance grows, so does the risk. Kenna must find a way to absolve the mistakes of her past in order to build a future out of hope and healing.
“People say you fall in love, but fall is such a sad word when you think about it. Falls are never good. You fall on the ground, you fall behind, you fall to your death. Whoever was the first person to say they fell in love must have already fallen out of it. Otherwise, they’d have called it something much better.”
This was my first Colleen Hoover book; I have bought several of her books and have placed them on my TBR pile. I decided it was time to finally start reading this was such a heavy read for me, to say that this book had me sobbing would be an understatement. Colleen was able to embody Kenna’s pain on such a deep level I could literally feel her pain the torture she put herself through on a daily basis.
The character development is truly top notch
My heart literally was breaking for Kenna, this book makes you really look at the grey areas of life and how one bad decision could completely destroy the lives of many, and how that bad choice can make people think the worst in you.
“It proves that time, distance, and devastation allow people enough opportunity to craft villains out of people they don’t even know”
Ledger Ward, the handsome bar owner ex pro football player becomes a source of comfort for Kenna until learning his name and that he was Scotty’s best friend. Their hot and cold back and forth relationship was enough to give me whiplash. I had so much anger towards Ledger for most of the book but toward the end I was warming up to him.
He has been a constant in Kenna’s daughter Diems life since Patrick and Grace brought her home and that brings Kenna comfort. He’s also been a rock for Grace and Patrick during the hard times when they are struggling with their sons death.
“Is that…is that a fucking pigeon?”
Without spoiling the book I can just say it has a happy ending which I’m thankful for after all the ugly tears I cried over this story if it wasn’t a happy ending I’d be all tore up.
“I am going to be the best person I can be for your daughter. I promise. I’m going to give her the best life, and when she asks about her mother, I’m going to tell her what a wonderful person you are. I’ll make sure she grows up knowing how much you love her.”-Ledger
Maybe it doesn’t matter whether something is a coincidence or a sign. Maybe the best way to cope with the loss of the people we love is to find them in as many places and things as we possibly can. And in the off chance that the people we lose are still somehow able to hear us, maybe we should never stop talking to them. - Kenna
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
